ABOUT US > Technology >> ARMEN

  1. What is ARMEN?

It stands for an "Apparatus for Real-time Monitoring Electrophoresis of Nucleic-acids".

  2. What can ARMEN system be used for?

Electrophoresis is a very popular technique for analyzing nucleic-acids (DNA/RNA), and proteins in the fields of biomedicine and biotechnology. DNA recombination or gene construction and recovering and purifying DNA fragments from electrophoretic separated gel plates are routine laboratory procedures. Usually, isolating and purifying DNA fragments from the gel involves a complex set of procedures including the steps of gel electrophoresis, cutting gels containing DNA samples, and isolation with a consumable kit. With conventional techniques for separation and isolation of DNA/RNA, the operating processes cannot be monitored during analyses. With the Viagene ARMEN system, presented here, the entire separation and purification process can be monitored in real-time, data can be recorded any time during analysis, and any problems with the operation can be found at a very early stage, thus reducing costs and costly delays before it is determined that the assay needs to be re-run under different conditions or can be terminated after a much shorter time.

  3. How will the product look like?

Preliminary design drawn by an artist is as shown, not the actual prototype. Actual product may look different.
  1. How will I benefit from switching to this system?

    • Dramatic reduction of analysis time for protein/protein interaction, nucleic acid hybridization or interaction of protein & nucleic acids.

    • Real-time monitoring electrophoretic process.

    • Recording experimental result any time during electrophoresis.

    •  Dramatic reduction of materials use in the experiments.

    • Simplifying the procedure for identifying the targeting proteins or nucleic acids.

    • Using the same apparatus for protein/protein interaction, nucleic acid hybridization or protein/nucleic-acid interaction.

    • Eliminating the use of radioisotopes in all of these types of experiments.

    • Dramatic reduction in the cost for the analysis
